  • Who provides Train To Tend?
    • Train To Tend was produced and is owned by Klein Buendel, Inc. a woman-owned business in Golden, Colorado. Klein Buendel creates programs to improve public health based on the latest research and using the latest technology.
  • How does this training work?
    • The Train to Tend training is divided into modules, starting first with an introduction. Each module contains information presented by a host in videos, simulations, and text. Each module finishes with a quiz over the information in the module. There is a final exam over all of the information in Train To Tend at the end of the last module. When all quizzes and the final exam are passed, a certificate is provided by the Train to Tend website that you can save, email, or print.
  • What are the benefits of the training?
    • Train To Tend is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in Washington State and Oregon.
    • In Colorado, state law requires that an instructor be present during the training Klein Buendel can send a proctor to your store or you can come to Klein Buendel’s offices to take the training. Either way, the user completes the training online.
    • The training is compatible with most mobile devices, including tablet computers and smartphones.
    • Progress is tracked throughout the training and you can start and stop as you need without having to repeat activities.
    • The training was designed with the users in mind. It has a modern design and provides a high quality user experience.
    • A team of researchers, industry specialists, and regulators worked together to ensure this training was accurate, fit expectations of the industry, and complied with rules and regulations of your state.
    • In Colorado, having staff trained in responsible marijuana veding by an approved program may be a mitigating factor if the State Licensing Authority is considering imposing penalties or fines for violations or infractions upon your store.
  • What information is covered in the training?
    • Train To Tend covers information required by your state or that are best practices for responsible sales of recreational marijuana. The topics include state laws on recreational marijuana sales, how to thoroughly card customers, the health effects of marijuana (Colorado only), how to identify and manage intoxicated customers, and rules of the trade.
  • What is special about this training?
    • Train to Tend is delivered entirely over the Internet. It is guided by a video host and provides information in interactive simulations and plain text. The simulations and learning activities give you a chance to observe and practice the responsible sales methods taught in the training.
  • Is this training available in Spanish?
    • No, Train to Tend is only offered in English at this time.
  • Is this program approved by my state?
    • For Colorado: Yes, Klein Buendel and Train To Tend are designated by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) as an approved responsible vendor training provider and program.
    • For Oregon: Train To Tend covers topics identified by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) as part of responsible sales practices.
    • For Washington State: The Train To Tend training was reviewed by regulators at the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) to make sure it is accurate.
  • How long does the training usually take to complete?
    • The Train To Tend training takes about 3 hours, on average, from registration to completion of the final exam. Remember, you can start and stop the training and when you return later, the training starts again where you left off.
  • If I take this training, when do I get my certificate?
    • A copy of your certificate is available online when you complete the Train to Tend program. You can download and save it, email it, or print it right from the Train To Tend website.
  • How long is the certificate earned from this training valid?
    • In Colorado: The training is valid for 2 years.
    • In Oregon: There are currently no rules about the length of time the certificate is valid. Check back with this website to see if these states update their regulations.

  • What if I finished the training but have lost my certificate?
    • We understand this happens. The easiest way to get a copy of your certificate is to log back in and print it from your profile page. You can also email info@traintotend.com with your request for a certificate, full name, industry badge number, and date you believe you completed the training and we will send you a copy of your certificate.
